How to organise informal letters
Informal letters are usually written to family and friends, and always
include the following elements:
1. The
heading goes in the upper right-hand corner. It always includes the date
and may, if you wish, include your address too.
2. The
greeting. Begin your letter with Dear ...,
3. The
opening paragraph contains a statement of your reason for writing. It
may be:
. inviting . apologising
.thanking .congratulating
. replying to a letter you
. expressing sympathy
have received
4. The
body of the letter includes one or more paragraphs which may or may not be
related to your reason for writing. Each time you change the subject, you must
begin a new paragraph.
5. The
final sentence or paragraph signals that your letter is coming to an end. It
often includes:
. a
reason for ending your letter
. a
wish for the good health of the person you are writing to
. a
hope that you will see or hear from that person ¡n the near future
6. The
closing is usually a phrase that puts an end to the letter.
7. The
signature - Don't forget to sign your name!
