My name is Andrew:

Hello!

My name is Andrew. I am twelve years old.

I am tall and thin. I have got brown eyes and dark hair.

I have got one sister.

I live in Leeds. I study in Pudsey Grangefield High school.

I like Spain (see the picture)

How old are you?

To talk about your age you use the verb "TO BE" (ser,estar). Look at its different forms:

I am thirteen years old.

You are twelve years old

She is eight years old.

My mother is thirty-five years old.

My sister Jane:

This is my sister Jane. She is eight years old.

She has got long dark hair. She has got brown eyes.

She is very funny. She is at home now.

She likes school.

My cat:

This is my cat "Bundy." He is fat.

He is very big now.

He is eight months old. He is completely black.

His eyes are yellow.

He is very nervous.

"BE"

In English you use the verb "Be" (ser/estar) to talk about you:

Your age:                                   I am thirteen years old (Tengo trece años)

Your physical appearance:       I am short and thin (Soy bajo y delgado)

Your character:                          I am very friendly (Soy muy simpático)

Saxon Genitive: Pay attention to these examples from above:

My sister's name is Laura

My brother's name is Paul

This construction is called the "Saxon Genitive" and it also expresses possesion

In English word order has to follow some rules:

"The subject of a sentence always comes before the verb"

- I have got a bicycle

" Adjectives usually come before a noun.

- I have got a blue car

- She likes horror movies

"Adjectives also come after the verb to be.

- My new book is black

- That house is big

Let's look at some useful vocabulary. When you describe people you can talk about their physical appearance or their character. Here are some adjectives and you can use to describe a person

Now write a short description of yourself using the information in this unit
