🌟 Post-Doctoral Contract Opportunity for the ISRS Project at CSIC-Institute of Material Structure, Madrid 🌟
Project:
– ISOLDE ISRS Experiment, funded by MRR associated with major experiments at CERN.
Duration:
– 24 months
Location:
– CSIC-Institute of Material Structure, Calle Serrano 121, Madrid.
Salary:
– CSIC FC3 level.
Objectives:
The ISRS (ISOLDE Superconducting Recoil Separator), funded by MRR (BOE-A-2023-16885), aims to study radioactive nuclei. A high-resolution team is crucial for analyzing reaction products. ISRS features a superconducting storage ring enabling mass identification of nuclei by flight time. MAGDEM, a technological prototype for ISRS, consists of Canted Cosinus Theta (CCT) type superconducting multifunction magnets, currently under study at IEM. To characterize MAGDEM with particle beams, a test bench will be implemented at the CMAM Material Microanalysis Center in Madrid. This includes a set of quadrupole magnets for beam focusing into a reaction chamber as an injection system, where the optics and presence of higher-order harmonics in the MAGDEM units produced during the project will be studied.
Key Responsibilities:
– Design study of the reaction chamber for MAGDEM demonstrator injection focusing tests and setting up the quadrupole set in CMAM’s Nuclear Physics line.
– Implementation of a beam monitoring system at the focal point of the quadrupole system.
– Development of a multipurpose target system for focusing 1-1.5 cm beams with solid targets and millimetric/sub-millimetric beams with supersonic gaseous or liquid jet targets.
– Analysis of critical elements of the focal plane detector prototype to meet flight time resolution requirements for mass separation (beam grouping with width <15 ns) and charge and position identification.
– Testing of scintillator detectors around the ISRS reaction target as a prototype start signal for flight time measurement within the ISRS ring.
