From Teaching
Writing Skills by Donn Byrne:
Writing
programs with a Focus
on Accuracy:
Emphasis is placed on the product and it stresses "the importance of
control in order to eliminate them from written work. Students
are taught how to write and combine various sentence types and
manipulation exercises to give them the experience of writing connected
sentences" (Byrne 22)
on Fluency: "This
approach encourages students to write as much as possible and as quickly
aqs possible ... The important thing is to get one's ideas down on paper...
They write what they want to write and cnsequently writing is an enjoyable
experience" (22)
on Text: "This
approach stresses the importance of the paragraph as the basic unit of
written expression and os therefore mainly concerned to teach students how
to construct and organise paragraphs... Techniques: forming paragraphs
from junmbled sentences, writing parallel paragraphs and developing
paragraphs from topic sentences" (22).
on Purpose: The
emphasis is placed on writing for purpose, having a reason for writing
or writing to someone. This approach "motivates them to write and
shows how writing is a form of communication" (23).
Communicative approach:
This approach emphasizes
the use of task-oriented activites that involve, where possible, the
exchange of information and the free use of language, without undue
concern for mistakes" (23). Reading and Listening are given more
prominence since students get more opportunities to read and listening and
reading material have related activities which lead to incidental writing
such as note-taking. This notes may also lead to further writing such as
writing a report/letter/postcard. Students are encouraged to interact (questionnaires,
quizzes) and work together in pairs or groups and share their written work.
Most times writing activities involve an element of 'fun.'
Reflections:
producto.
