Vol. 16 No. 1 (2026) Published: Setting a Path for the Journal’s Next Editorial Phase
Enlightening Tourism. A Pathmaking Journal announces the completion and publication of Vol. 16 No. 1 (2026): January–June 2026.
The issue closes with the editorial article “From Knowledge Structure to Pathmaking Tourism Scholarship: Editorial Renewal and Future Research Directions in Enlightening Tourism”, published on 13 August 2026, whose co-authored include the journal's two Editors in chief.
Drawing on a systematic analysis of the journal’s accumulated knowledge base, the editorial moves beyond a retrospective account of its development. It translates the journal’s scholarly trajectory into a forward-looking research agenda and introduces pathmaking tourism scholarship as the guiding perspective for its renewed editorial phase.
This perspective encourages research into how destinations, businesses, communities, ecosystems and institutions create, transform and govern responsible development pathways under conditions of uncertainty, technological change and societal transition.
In its next phase, Enlightening Tourism particularly welcomes manuscripts that move beyond treating tourism merely as an empirical context and instead use tourism research to advance theory, methods, evidence, policy and responsible practice.
The editorial therefore serves both as a reflection on the journal’s intellectual development and as an invitation to the scholarly community to contribute to its future direction.
