Enlightening Tourism. A Pathmaking Journal is an international, double-blind peer-reviewed, Diamond Open Access journal publishing high-quality research in tourism, hospitality and tourism business studies. The journal advances pathmaking tourism scholarship by focusing on how destinations, firms, communities, ecosystems and institutions create, transform and govern new pathways of responsible development, strategic value creation, knowledge, innovation and technology-enabled change. ET welcomes theoretically grounded, methodologically rigorous and internationally relevant research, with particular attention to tourism futures, strategic management, knowledge management, intellectual capital, emerging technologies, forecasting, innovation, open innovation, ethics, business ethics, sustainability and responsible destination transformation. ET gives priority to manuscripts that advance scholarly debate, demonstrate a clear theoretical, methodological or empirical contribution, and offer meaningful implications for tourism scholarship, organizations, destinations, communities, policy and responsible practice.

A New Editorial Phase for Enlightening Tourism. A Pathmaking Journal

Starting from January 2026, Enlightening Tourism. A Pathmaking Journal enters a new editorial phase aimed at strengthening its international visibility, scientific impact, and academic positioning within tourism and hospitality studies.

This renewed editorial direction, led by Prof. Mirko Perano (University of Salerno, Italy) and Prof. Elena García de Soto Camacho (University of Huelva, Spain) as Editors-in-Chief, will place increasing emphasis on methodological rigor, theoretical contribution, international relevance, and the capacity of published research to advance contemporary debates in the field.

In line with its international mission, Enlightening Tourism encourages contributions capable of addressing issues, perspectives, and debates of broad international relevance within tourism and hospitality studies. The journal particularly welcomes manuscripts that foster international scholarly dialogue, comparative perspectives, and collaborative research networks across different geographical and academic contexts.

The journal will also progressively introduce updated author guidelines and a redesigned article template in order to improve clarity, consistency, transparency, and international readability of published contributions.

Through this renewed editorial strategy, Enlightening Tourism aims to consolidate its role as an open, selective, and internationally oriented academic journal committed to high-quality research, ethical publishing standards, and meaningful contributions to the future of tourism studies.

Editorial Note:

As of December 31, 2025, I have concluded my term as Editor-in-Chief of Enlightening Tourism: A Pathmaking Journal by my own decision.

From that date onward, the journal is led by the new Editors-in-Chief, Mirko Perano and Elena García de Soto, both researchers with extensive experience. Mirko Perano, Associate Professor at the University of Salerno (Italy), brings a strong background in scientific journal editing, while Elena García de Soto serves as Dean of the Faculty of Business and Tourism  at the University of Huelva (Spain).
